This restaurant is representative of the hidden gems you can find in Slovakia’s heartland in places like Piestany. While it certainly isn’t known internationally, this is one of Slovakia’s premiere Spa towns and within it are accompanying restaurants, hotels and points of interest.
We stopped in Piestany to enjoy the rich mineral baths halfway towards the high Tatras mountains. Once we’d finished with our rejuvenating experience we found ourselves hungry and turned to our spotty cell service to locate a restaurant. Zuckmann Villa Bistro turned out to be a rare treat. It is a combination of European favorites, from Italian, to German and Central European mixed with fresh and modern ingredients.
The layout of the Bistro is like a cozy cabin. There are around twenty tables and the wooden floors, walls and ceilings set a nice mood. The waiters are attentive and prompt being accomplished in several languages. The lemonades on the menu are healthy and home made, sugar free too. They are delicious with all bits of fruit and spices. Our favorite dish was the Risotto. Many of the menu items are vegetarian and most have a unique spin on classical favorites.
The cost of the meal was reasonable considering especially the quality and craftsmanship behind the food. The one thing that left us disappointed was the home made pasta. It did not capture our taste buds like everything else did. The dessert menu looked intriguing too but we were trying to be good, so there’s always next time.
