This place is more than a restaurant and more than a wine shop, its really the best of both! What sets it apart from being just one of those two things is its relaxed atmosphere. Everyone spoke quite highly about it prior to our arrival and we found it to be as described: friendly staff, delicious food and an inviting atmosphere.
Armenia has a 6,000 year old wine culture and so it is no suprise that a restaurant and wine shop as eclectic as this one should exist. However for all that history the country is just coming into the modern methods of wine production and marketing with some big successes.
A foodie and discerning wine enthusiast place like wine Republic shows some very intentional though as to how the ancient culture and the modern world of food and wine are merging. The store’s collection showcases some of the better known labels and regions of the world, all of which can be opened and drank either at the bar or with the Thai and Mediterranean Menus offered in house.
When we arrived it was quite early and so we wondered if something was off, it just happened to be the eve of a major holiday and from what we’ve read and heard elsewhere this is quite rare, the place is usually packed, especially in the evening, so do plan ahead when you go.
The staff were very knowledgeable about the wine, the food covered Asia, European and Latin American cuisines and with such a diverse menu, quality was always on point. The starter cheese plate was a masterpiece and is a great accompaniment to any glass of wine.
The prices of the food were incredible and even some of the country’s finest wines and rarest bottles were available for sale. We took home a signed collector’s edition since the place was so unique and special. If you had the opportunity to have just one meal in Yerevan, Wine Republic should be it, with a great wine to toast with as well of course.
