Vienna International Airport is an excellent hub for connecting Europe with the rest of the world. Probably its best feature is that it is so well connected and yet feel very homey at the same time. Sure Munich or Frankfurt have even more connections, but they feel just massive. Vienna offers similar perks with less hassle.
The airport is divided into three terminals with six sets of gates. The main separation is the Shengen and non Shengen sections of the airport. Whether one is flying within Europe or abroad the security checks, transfer halls, lounges and shops all have an equal quality and presentation.
The shops and dining keep to the theme of being small but extremely well kept and inviting. The stores range from duty free items, to a variety of high end clothing, jewelry and typical Austrian food which is fresh, organic and as rich as the mountainous countryside.
There is high speed free wifi offered throughout the airport and this is very easy to connect to with any device. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, however not so much for sleeping as the atmosphere is minimalist, clean and very well lit. The lower ceilings in the halls show the age of the airport, but there is nothing lacking in cleanliness or structural integrity.
The airport lounges are very well kept. Comfortably furnished, filled with fresh food, meeting rooms, smoking rooms, showers and toilets too. They can get a bit crowded when there are many flights going out at once.
