We have flown Turkish Airlines for several years and it never fails to disappoint. We recommend it a lot to travelers that we advise because it is a real treat to travel with them and the quality for price is excellent. Still we find some people hesitant because of things like the US travel ban or preconceived notions about the region. Based on the flight we just took, here are reasons why Turkish keeps a top spot on our list.
A smooth check in process: We were received by a welcoming agent who was friendly and the area stood apart in its décor and spaciousness. Staff on the ground and in the plane are dressed in sharp and professional uniforms.
The planes are unique: Howso? They are new, offer hundreds of entertainment options on crisp, high definition screens. There are nice amenities like fresh flowers in the bathroom, luxury amenity kits for all passengers as well as toys and coloring books for the kids.
Comfort is king: economy class looks as good or nicer than business class in many airlines in the US. There is ample space to recline, seats are cushy, the headrest is plush and finally we found complimentary headphones that actually work nice.
Food is an experience: No doubts Turkish offers the best food in the industry and the standard economy meal looks like any business meal elsewhere. Menus are different in every flight and often reflect the various destinations. Food service comes with a hot towel, multiple drink refills, and they never mess up our requests for special meals, as usually happens in most other carriers.
Flight logistics are professional: The timing of the flights is very punctual in general, they keep you informed about flight status with high tech navigation and the captain and crew are always informative about current flight information.
Istanbul International airport: may have outgrown itself in size but it is a great place to connect, it has one of best duty frees, premium lounges and abundant food selections.
Long layovers can be a great experience: we were informed with a ten hour layover that we could access a complimentary hotel room nearby. After crossing immigration the hotel services desk had us in a comfy nearby hotel within thirty minutes.
Quality and Value: One may think this would cost a fortune, but in reality this is a great value, want to know how much we paid for a roundtrip ticket from Miami to Beijing? $700 it is a very competitive price for such a long route.
The professionalism of how they handled the travel ban: they take electronics prior to boarding and arrange them in nicely packed boxes and they offer a free voucher to make use of in flight internet.
