With an internal structure and efficiency that’s marveled about around the world, Changi Airport should not surprise visitors that it is well connected to the entire island of Singapore. Since long haul flights come in all day and night to this island nation, transport options between the airport and the city are numerous and run constantly. Here we have listed the more popular options.
Free Shuttle Bus
Unfortunately as of the time of writing, it is regrettable to say that the free shuttle bus is entering its final phase. The service will be shutting down April 6, 2014. Until that time it operates between the airport and Bedock MRT Station. It only runs on weekends and public holidays at present and it departs from Terminal 3 Basement 2 Bus terminal at the airport. The Free shuttle between Changi Airport and Sengkang MRT station will also be shutting down the same date. Both Shuttles run from 11:30am till 9:30pm. The only free shuttle to remain in operation will be the Shuttle between Changi Airport and Changi Business Park. This runs Monday to Friday 11:45am till 2:15pm. Note that under the bus luggage storage is not available.
The bus is an affordable and scenic way to reach the center of town. It costs a little more than one dollar for a ride from the airport into the city center. The buses run between 6am and Midnight, and it is the number 36 bus. One can take the bus in the basement level of any of the three terminals. No change is given at ticket purchase so plan accordingly. The trip takes around 1 hour.
There is an affordable shared shuttle service which runs 24 hours between the airport and hotels in the city. Rates go for $9 for each adult and $6 for children 12 and under. The shuttle can easily be booked on arrival in any of the three terminals or prebooked ahead of time. The Ground transport desk in any of the arrivals halls can assist in getting a shuttle on arrival.
The MRT is a great way to get around the city itself and to make the trip from the airport in half an hour. The trains can be boarded between terminals 2 and 3 The MRT service links the airport station with Tanah Merah station. Transfer there for trains to the city (Westbound if going into town, Eastbound if going towards the airport.) MRT trains run every 10-15 minutes from around 5:30 until just after 23:00.
Fares can range between $20 to $40 and ride time is around half an hour from the airport. There is also an airport surcharge fee of $5 for evening hours on weekends and $3 for normal hours.
