Baku is a fascinating city with old Persian influence in the old town. The Azeri’s are closely tied to the Turkish Language/Culture wise. Should one decide to visit Armenia, it would be best to visit Azerbaijan first. One would need to go through a third country to reach Armenia from Azerbaijan due to conflict of the two nations. I had visited Armenia first then Georgia after flew into Baku. The immigration officer thumbed into my passport saw an Armenian Visa then called over a chief officer. The head officer combed into the pages of my passport looking for visa/stamps or evidence of travel to Nagorno-Karbakh which is Armenian controlled area of Azerbaijan. Getting there obtaining visa can be just done in Yerevan.I was permitted entry however anyone of Armenian Descent or born in Armenia even with different citizenship will be questioned or detained/deported.Be sure to register with local police upon arrival if staying more then 72 hours in Azerbaijan.
