The Cedar Spa by L’Occitane is a place that has drawn us back to this fantastic resort time after time. Not only does the hotel enjoy a magical environment in the Himalayas, but it creates a relaxing and intimate retreat with the use of cedar trees, water and light.
The Spa is situated on a lower floor in the hotel just near the pool and gym. The fact that the hotel is built into the side of a mountain means dramatic views await, but the spa views actually are more artistic, focused on cedar trees growing out of a decorative reflective pool. The effect is instantly calming.
The symbolism of the Cedar shows the richness of the Mussoorie hills where local trees and fauna have been the source of healing ointments and rituals for centuries. Combine this with the Mediterreanean traditions which L’Occitane brings and there is a spa menu that fuses East and West in an inviting harmony.
It is quite easy to make a booking and the staff are very keen to mention the discounts or promotions available. However the bookings do seem to fill up fast so we recommend getting those in as soon as you arrive. Every treatment begins with a welcome ritual the soothes feet and pressure points, in a true nod to Indian hospitality.
Treatments are focused on themes and incorporate a variety of styles. The themes are: Anti-Ageing, Drainage, Massages, Scrubs, Wraps and Therapies. The Spa is focused on being environmentally sustainable and the products in use are designed to reduce waste and be in harmony with the environment. Sanghvi brands products are used in addition to L’Occitane as a local partner to bring the quality ingredients needed for Indian style specific treatments that call for local flora.
Much to our liking every treatment room has a steam room shower which allows the guest to fully relax and detox prior to the treatment. There is no rush, but the therapist usually recommends ten minutes of use prior to the treatment. Every treatment we have had here is expertly done. The therapists are knowledgeable and professional in their approach.
As far as treatments go, the signature Cedarwood body massage incorporates a relaxing use of local ingredients to elevate and engage the senses. The revitalizing aromachologie massage incorporates several styles into one so that the body aligns from head to toe and energy is released for relaxation. This is really a good one if you are coming to India from a long flight or are weary from the road. If you are looking for a new experience the Cedar aroma bath is an infusion of local smells and oils which will rejuvenate the senses and it is something you will unlikely find elsewhere.
