With an internal structure and efficiency that’s marveled about around the world, Changi Airport should not surprise visitors that… more>>
Having spent several days in this posh mountain resort, I feel as if I need to write a several thousand-word article to do it justice, but I’ll stick to the highlights. The Waldorf Astoria Park City is a place best enjoyed on a lengthy stay as time takes a back seat and moments become the focal points.
Any visitor to Park City will be enthralled with the prominent expressions of nature, high mountain peaks, thick forests, year round activities like winter sports, hiking and mountain biking just to name a few. The beautifully rugged Utah wilds are fully complimented by the exquisite architecture, luxury, décor and friendliness of the Waldorf Astoria Park City.
Time of visit:
My arrival accompanied the locally termed “Mud Season.” When the snows melt and summer is not yet established. For the things I appreciate most about a hotel: less people, reduced rates and individual attention, the timing was perfect. The hotel staff were all courteous, sharp and accommodating. An upgrade request was graciously granted and low season did not affect any of the regular guest services.
The hotel combines much of the classic Waldorf Astoria design that features rich carpeting, black and white designs, comfortable bedding and furniture mixed here with its own alpine creativity. This includes lots of use of wooden furniture and trim, fireplaces, wooden balconies and rustic stone. Rooms are spacious overall, well appointed, but not crowded. The larger rooms have full kitchenettes, multiple fireplaces, bathrooms, bedrooms, laundry and entertainment centers. The kitchenette was fully stocked for all my cooking needs and everything from the appliances to the silverware was top notch.
As part of the room rate, each guest in my party enjoyed a $25 credit for breakfast in the Powder restaurant (the only restaurant on site). The menu offered a great variety of options all masterfully cooked with flavor. The credit is sufficient for a nourishing meal with options. As in all other respects, personalized requests were met with efficiency and keen aptitude by the staff. The concierge was a great help in navigating the many trails the area has to offer, with detailed maps and descriptions. Calling the valet service for the car as well as housekeeping requests were always promptly accomplished when requested. Almost any good hotel has some delays, but I didn’t find any of those here.
Fitness, Spa and Recreation:
A central part of the experience at the hotel is bodily refreshment and rejuvenation. Guests enjoy unfettered access to a state of the art gym, with a range of equipment one can use to maintain and even further challenge levels of fitness. Don’t forget the miles of mountains just outside the door that can get your blood pumping too. The nice complement to the exertion around you is the Spa, truly a gem in the heart of the hotel. There are plenty of lounges with teas and refreshments, separate locker rooms with steam baths, fireplace lounge areas, and Spa treatment rooms with full menu’s of healing remedies. The central courtyard the hotel surrounds offers two Jacuzzi’s and a heated pool for year round enjoyment. The deck space offers plenty of room for everyone. The central fire pit is the place for the nightly s’mores tradition. It makes sure your day ends as sweetly and comfortably, creating your favorite mountain getaway memories.
