Our trip to Haikou is the first time we’ve explored the Northern end of the tropical Chinese Island of Hainan. What drew us here was the newest property in the Ritz Carlton portfolio is located in the heart of a pristine and upscale ten golf course community called Mission Hills. Even if you are not a golf fan or looking to play the hotel offers plenty of leisure and luxury activities.
Without exaggeration everything seems to be perfect in this hotel. There is great communication among all the staff in spite of the hotel being so huge and new. The place itself is beautiful, it resembles a chic, traditional golf club without being pretentious. From the moment of check in, the sense of welcome sat upon every smile and greeting from staff members who asked and remembered our names.
The staff had gone ahead an upgraded us significantly even before our arrival. Check in was done in the lounge and we were offered snacks immediately. During our time everything was attended to immediately and personally, from helping us print, to providing transport, to making reservations, there was always a can do attitude with excellent attention and intuitive service.
The rooms were beautiful, with lots of Scottish and manor type themes in the decor. Rich wood paneling, marble, statues, books and artifacts. The hotel had beautiful artwork, wooden panels, leather seating and ornate furnishings. The balconies offer exceptional views.
The fitness and wellbeing facilities are first class. The machines are top of the line, the locker room has a sauna, steam and whirlpool. The massage treatments we tried were expertly done. The large swimming pool overlooks the mission hills complex as do the rooms and provides 180 degrees of unbroken golf course views.
The club lounge is much like a grand old living room and kitchen in an historic home. There are food and beverage services all day long with quality ingredients made by expert culinary hands. Everything feels perfected and elaborated to a very high standard. The breakfast buffet is also a sampling of artesianal delights. A large entertainment and shopping mall complex sits just across the street if you are looking for other dining and an eclectic range of shopping options.
Definite highlights of the property are the club lounge, the amazing views and the homey feeling which comes from the personal friendliness of the staff and the intentional intimacy amidst the grandiose furnishings.
