On a recent trip to Washington D.C. we had many good names to choose from. There are representations of many luxury chains all over this city like a star studded cast. The Ritz Carlton Tyson’s Corner became our choice for two reasons, it has been given some industry recognition recently and the chain itself delivers a great quality and benefits especially for Platinum elite Marriott members.
The location of the property is great. Tyson’s Corners Virginia sits just a few metro stops outside of Washington D.C. The area is home to beautiful office spaces, several malls and new highways. The 4th floor lobby is a pleasant space sporting rich wooden trim, elaborate furniture and marbled floors. This sets the theme for the hotel’s design which is that of a more traditional era. The hotel has been renovated recently and some of the decor is well done. Other places seem to be waiting an upgrade or decidedly staying antique.
Our club floor room was nicely furnished and it offered wonderful views of the surrounding area. Technologies, toiletries and comforts were well appointed.
The club lounge itself was small but had a nice setup: thoughtful selections of health conscious food, a variety of wines available all day and generous service times. The only downside was the over-enthusiastic nature of the staff. They were friendly and engaging but at times overbearing. There certainly seemed to be regulars among the guests who had cultivated acquaintances with the staff which was fine in its own right. However it was not appreciated on our part being repeatedly interrupted and engaged in pleasantries about our itinerary and stay. In short it didn’t seem like the staff understood some guests (like us) just want to do their own thing.
The wellbeing facilities of the hotel are nice and we enjoyed them. We booked a treatment which was expertly done. The steam room, sauna, pool and jacuzzi were accessible and the gym had everything one needs for a good workout. These facilities aren’t the newest or the most stylish, but they are spacious and in good working order.
The hotel for us delivered a worthwhile experience overall. It covers the essentials of a Ritz Carlton stay. For those wondering how it measures up to the cross town Ritz Carlton Pentagon City, the latter is usually slightly cheaper and enjoys a closer location to the city. All things considered they are similar, almost twin properties in most respects.
