Koh Samui is an out of the radar destination for many of the millions of travelers that Thailand receives each year. It is a small exotic island and it takes around one hour flight to arrive there. This little paradise has become a luxurious enclave for the discerning travelers sort, those looking for more in the quiet and exclusive side of a trip. Most of the hotels here offer a top end rooms and villas, frequently nestled among the jungles and gardens or facing blue and green waters and white sandy beaches, all of this comes of course with a higher price tag, but as well with an enhanced sense of exclusivity.
The Ritz Carlton is one of the most recent additions to the portfolio of properties in Samui. It takes only 15 minutes to get there by taxi. We landed in an early morning flight from Bangkok and we were immediately greeted by one of the members of the hotel. She took care of all details (even when were using a private taxi). Despite the fact we arrived very early our room was ready. Since I am a Titanium Elite member with Marriott we received an upgrade to a sea view villa.
The room was beautiful, there was a separate living room, a bedroom and another whole wing for bathroom, shower and tub. We even had a private pool and a very generous outside seating area, everything with a direct view of the beautiful waters and the beach.
The hotel is secluded and everybody was very attentive. Our breakfast everyday was delightful with excellent and generous healthy choices. The gym was a state of the art facility surrounded by tropical gardens. We were somehow upset with the fact the hotel does not offer a steam room or sauna.
The spa is the crown jewel of the Ritz, there is a wonderful lap pool and several suites for treatments. We decided to go for a relaxation massage of 90 minutes along with a Songkram journey and scrub. The experience was wonderful. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anybody looking for a moment of peace and restoration.
I particularly loved my stay at the Ritz Carlton Koh Samui. My only complaint may be that some of the materials used in the construction seem to be somehow cheap and we constantly faced problems opening and closing doors, windows or things like that. Besides that everything was really perfect. I was very pleased to see how the personnel (including high ranking managers) took really good care of us, asking everyday if th
ey could do something extra to turn our experience in something even better.
