I arrived to the Ritz Carlton this past week during what is considered one of the lowest seasons of the year. I have to say it was a great decision, the whole place seemed for us, everybody was in a great mood, and nothing was spared by the personnel to make us feel at home.
The Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch is located is a private development, high in the mountains of Colorado. The building from outside can seem big, but the hotel is actually small and has a cozy environment. The first week of November is really quiet, the weather was already cold so the fireplaces were lit adding a very romantic feeling to the hotel.
There is only valet parking and it is actually quite expensive 60 USD in the high season and 30 USD in low season, another fee to be considered is the resort fee that is 50 in the high season and 30 in the low. But this is not a cheap hotel, it is intended to be luxurious and exclusive, even the most basic rooms can go for hundreds of dollars. It is quite understandable when one sees the level of service and the facilities and if one adds the fact that this is a ski in/ ski out property everything makes sense, but we did not pay hundreds actually thanks to my preference for traveling during low season we scored an amazing deal.
The Ritz is located among beautiful nature and breathtaking mountains, it is perfect for exercising and to enjoy the outdoors. For those who want to relax on site the Spa is one of the best I have ever seen in the USA, the facilities are on par to those in Asia. The locker room boasts scented steam rooms, Jacuzzis and saunas and several indoor pools. There is as well an outdoor lap pool.
Every night smores are offered around the great outdoor fireplace, it is a moment to socialize with other guests.
For what I was able to see all the rooms are beautifully appointed, we were upgraded to a suite in the residential part of the hotel, and it was amazing, just another perk of traveling during low season. There were separated bedrooms, living and dining room and a totally equipped kitchen something that I really enjoy since I love to cook.
We ordered food the last day and even when the vegetarian options were somehow limited in the menu the chef was very accommodating with us and happy to prepare one of the best vegetarian burgers I have ever had.
I am sure the Ritz Carlton is beautiful during winter, but I prefer quiet time and affordable rates, so if you are like me plan your visit during the shoulder season. It takes around two hours driving from Denver, the highway is in excellent condition and the panorama along the way is exceptional.
