The Metro area of Manila in the Philippines has seen the rise and decline of prominent neighborhoods in its past. A section of the city which has enjoyed luxury and flourishing for some time now is the exclusive Makati. Shopping, lifestyle, skyscrapers and business are all found in abundance here, as well as stunning hotels.
Raffles is a hotel chain which has high standards of luxury and has a very intentional plan of expansion and development. In staying with a conservative list of properties we have noticed them to maintain impeccable and top notch standards around Asia and the Middle East. Raffles Makati is another great testament to these standards but above all we found it to be a memorable experience.
Our arrival was earlier than check in and the room was not ready at that moment. The front desk staff were very hard working and gave us a place to work, in the writers bar. We then opted to spend some time walking the city and they took our contact info to give us an update as soon as the room was ready. The lobby is a place of fine appointments like marble, wood and crystal but tastefully done. The only disappointment in the stay was that the steam room was out of order. We were offered a nice spa credit.
The Raffles Makati is actually housed in the same building as the Fairmont. The Raffles is quite small and only occupies a few floors of the larger Fairmont. The hotel is very exclusive however, lobbies are separate, pool areas are separate and access to common areas is restricted with plenty of security and staff around. The benefit of being at the Raffles is that one has access to the Fairmont facilities but it doesn’t work in the opposite way.
The room was a beautiful combination of several rooms. There is a living area with a small table, couch and coffee machine. There is a butler assigned to your room for whom no task is too great or small. We found the wooden floors, bespoke paintings and decor, marble bathroom, deep closet space and just all the accessories to be singular and handcrafted. Of course internet and all the in room technologies are best in their class. A window view from the bedroom or the soaking tub allowed us to see the growing Makati skyline.
The gym area is shared by both hotels and it is a large room with floor to ceiling windows. The busy avenues below are very nice to watch from the cardio machines. The Spa area has a large locker rooms with steam, sauna and jacuzzi. The treatment rooms are relaxing and essentially Asian. The treatments most importantly are well done with expert service.
The daily breakfast held in the all day dining restaurant had an abundance of fresh fruits and products from around the world. It was expertly delivered even with a large crowd on Father’s day. The afternoon tea served in the writer’s bar was an exclusive feeling and taste of refinery and the evening cocktails and snack also held there just gives the hotel an atmosphere of real high class living.
