The ideal time for End of Year and New Year vacations to be planned and booked is already underway (think Christmas in July!) and to be honest its even a bit late in terms of planning to get the prime venues and events.
Being one of the most traveled times of the year already with schools on vacation, families in transit to each other and most of the working population with some sort of break, competition and prices inevitably go up so the best way to ensure your ideal spot is to make reservations now as the majority of travelers are just finishing up their summer vacations and will be thinking about winter break in a few months.
Travel industry research dictates that Mid September is when the window closes for Winter break airline tickets. The rates are ideal this far out because of the availability of routes, seats and dates, but the window will soon be closing due to the sheer number of people that require travel arrangements for the winter break. As that window closes prices go up of course and the ability to choose more desirable connections or routes dwindles considerably.
Mid August has long been touted as the optimal time to plan holiday hotel arrangements, from Thanksgiving to New Years. This won’t guarantee your first choice however, as hotels often have their best properties and suites reserved quite far in advance.
The more desirable the hotel location the more you can be sure it will have been reserved far in advance. The time is almost upon us where rates will go up and stay up all the way till the holidays and there will be less and less rooms to choose from.
