What is a good place to buy wine in Rome?

It may sound obvious, but one of the great delights of touring anywhere in is pouring a refreshing glass of wine. Other than going directly to the wine producers themselves, tourists may often be disappointed that wines found in Roman restaurants and most small shops are of a limited section and certainly overpriced for quality.

The best spot to go to in for a wide and selection of every price range is Enoteca Constantini (Piazza Cavour 16 00193 Roma). Constantini’s is part wine bar and part warehouse for thousands of varietals. The street level shop is small but don’t be fooled, go downstairs and find a vaulted cellar that seems to run the whole city block.

Wines are organized by regions of Italy and country of origin. For bargain hunters there are “wine bins” where decent local wines of all sorts are sold for 3 and 4 Euros per bottle. This store has wines ranging from a few Euros upwards of thousands of Euros and just going in to browse is an experience one won’t soon forget.
