We have been to Madrid dozens of times over the years and enjoyed a wide range of its hotels, from the high end to the most basic. It is such a well connected town with transit that it doesn’t much matter where you stay (unless you live for nightlife) in which case maybe you’ll be better located in the heart of things.
Marriott’s ownership of the Auditorium Hotel & Conference Center is somewhat new and it is a great acquisition for them. For many years it has actually been the largest hotel in Europe by the number of rooms.
In spite of its large size and location outside the city proper we found a fantastic set up for hospitality. There’s a good balance too between the logistical perks of being near the airport and quiet atmosphere any tourist appreciates at the end of a fun day in town.
There are several useful services and facilities the hotel provides that fit our particular journey well. Since we were renting a car from the airport to go deeper into Spain and did not want to haul loads of luggage with us that we’d need later in the trip, we were grateful for the complimentary Airport shuttle service and luggage storage (for up to one month upon request.)
Fast, free WiFi is always a plus when sharing media and we found the Executive Lounge to be very exclusive. The meal offerings were quite similar from day to day, but different than many other lounges was their generous hours and variety of options. The Fitness Center is large especially for a European hotel and the covered pool allows for year round access. The hotel is massive but the layout of the spaces really allows it to feel more intimate than it is.
As for the nature of the service, it was quite intuitive. They upgraded us without a hesitation to an incredible suite. There wasn’t a single request that they denied, it was a wonderful service, especially by European standards.
