The Sheikh Saad Al Abdallah Airport which serves Kuwait is not far from Kuwait City. In fact it is just a 20 minute ride by car and the roadway is well marked for those renting and driving themselves. Here are some of the recommended ways of getting into town.
A traveler should never underestimate the cost efficiency and regularity of public transit. The Bus number 501 is the main service between the Airport and the main bus station ‘Mirqab’ in Kuwait City. It departs every 45 minutes outside the arrivals terminal between 06:00 and 23:00 daily. The trip time is half an hour and the cost is 0.25 dinar. The bus makes stops at Maliya, Farwaniya and Crown Plaza along its route.
The Arrivals Hall is where one can find all the rental car companies on site. All of the major brands are represented here. You must be at least 18 years of age to rent a car and if you need a visit visa to enter the country you must have a valid international drivers license, as your home country driver’s license will not be valid.
Outside the Arrivals Hall there are plenty of taxi’s. A ride to Kuwait City’s center costs about 6 dinar. Make sure to agree with the driver on the price or use of the meter before you get in.
Be sure and check with your hotel for either their shuttle rates or even the free airport shuttles that many hotels offer. There are also shuttle companies on site which offer shared rides into town.
