Our trip to Ecuador consisted of spending several nights in the high altitude city of Quito. The city has a good number of international chains of various brands and some award winning boutique hotels too. We decided on the JW Marriott because of its good reputation and our elite reward status that comes with great perks.
The hotel is build in a pyramid shape that is indicative of an older generation of JW Marriott hotels and this of course made us wonder how it would really turn out. To our delight the hotel has had an interior renovation which makes it feel modern and relaxing.
What stands out about the hotel first is the staff, everyone is engaging from the doorman to the gym attendant to the executive lounge staff. Our status was recognized and an upgrade to a suite given. The biggest problem we faced was a wifi connectivity issue with our phones that took some time to resolve.
Our suite had beautiful wooden floors and furniture that gave it a crisp and airy feel. The furniture, bedding, and bathroom amenities were comfortable and homey. Anytime we asked for supplies they were immediately brought to the room.
The executive lounge was a real highlight of the stay. It has beautiful views of the surrounding cityscape on a high floor. There is a comprehensive breakfast, a grab and go lunch service from 11am-3pm with wonderful sandwiches, salads and other healthy options too. There is a evening food service from 5:30-7:30pm with some drinks included. Overall the food was a tasty blend of many healthy options, sourced locally and from abroad.
We took advantage of the health club while on our stay. The gym has very nice equipment and space available. There is a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and a spacious outdoor pool. The location of the hotel sits around 15 minutes from the historic old town. It is possible to get there from a nearby bus at the Orellana station for 25 cents, take a taxi for around $10 or grab an Uber for around $5.
As a hotel the JW Marriott delivers everything you can expect from the brand experience, with a great attitude of service and promptness. It may not make the top of our JW list experiences, but it delivers everything we’ve come to expect from the brand.
