It may surprise many readers in the Western hemisphere even to even hear the name Hangzhou, a city that… more>>
Our visit to Chengdu recently was one which left us with a great fondness for this city. It is easy to love, clean, surrounded by tranquil nature, rolling hills and thousands of years of history. This JW Marriott hotel brought together two other things we love, Marriott’s high standards and Chinese hospitality.
We arrived to Tianfu Square, the pedestrian and traffic hub of the metropolis and it was a perfect connection. The hotel sits just one block off of it and the views from the hotel over the Sichuan Library and Monuments are breathtaking.
The upper lobby may be the hotel’s most elaborate masterpiece. It shimmers with bejeweled chandeliers, polished metal and a comfy bar area. The hotel is less than a year old and so it sparkles while offering the most advanced furnishings and decor. The staff in every area of the hotel from the front desk, to the lounge, to the gym and restaurants were wonderful.
Views were spectacular. It doesn’t matter which side of the hotel you seem to be on, you can look out over wide boulevards below with a never ending flow of traffic, pedestrians and city life. The lounge hosted a delightful food service every night and the sunset was often in full view.
The rooms had a very minimalist feel with white floors and wooden paneled walls. The suite to which we were upgraded was as spacious as a big city apartment. There was excellent functionality for work space and relaxation space in the room and the floor to ceiling windows just made the big city outside part of the decor.
The hotel had excellent hospitality from dedicated staff, fresh and modern designs all at at an unbeatable location in the heart of Chengdu. We found this to be a great stay and one we’d happily repeat.
