When faced with open ended leisure time and beautiful getaways who doesn’t love a good pampering? Almost any hotel offers a form of passive and active wellness facilities, but we have chosen to highlight those whose services are truly exceptional.
Criteria we use to determine these exceptional places from our annual experiences include: unique atmospheres of relaxation and indulgence, intuitive and personalized treatments, great values for cost and a wholistic approach to wellness.
St. Regis Mauritius
While the hotel occupies a gorgeous stretch of beachfront, its spa stands out as the most unique part of the property for those who love exclusivity. The design, spa suites, personalized treatments and attractive prices are the right ingredients. It is a relaxing space on an otherwise crowded all-inclusive style resort, and we think a spa to consider visiting even if not staying at St. Regis as a guest.
JW Marriott Bogota, Colombia
Step into this urban capital spa and you’ll find yourself thinking you might be in the confines of Asia. Between the luxurious pool, spacious sauna and steam coupled with very friendly Latino hospitality, it brings together the best of East and West wellness cultures. The prices for treatments are high as is common in this part of the world, but it is worth noting that their treatments have unique local ingredients: from volcanic soils, to coffee extracts and rain forest delights.
Raffles Istanbul, Turkey
If ever a spa evoked a delightful memory for us it is the Raffles Istanbul. They routinely offer a “Happy Hour” session of promotions on a daily basis. In a hotel of this caliber the prices are understandably high, but the promotions render the treatments irresistible. This is a hotel that brands itself as a complete escape in Istanbul and the spa is no different. It offers Ottoman style designs with complete relaxation rooms, premium hammams, steam rooms and jacuzzi’s. This is one of the best Raffles hotels in the whole chain and probably their best spa worldwide.
Ritz Carlton Langkawi, Malaysia
The immediate impression the spa gives is remote indulgence. It is situated at the edge of a tropical beach resort with treatment suites in the form of overwater rooms. The design even mimicking the traditional Malaysian fishing baskets of the area is an extra reminder of the importance local and ancient rituals play in this spa menu. The facilities were an invitation to spend hours contemplating the sea and the forest cover. What is more, as Platinum Members we received an extra 30% off the treatment costs which were already competitive by industry standards in this category of hotel.
Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa: A Luxury Collection Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Coming to a unique hotel set up in a traditional desert oasis makes for a delightful encounter with Arabian nature in its most authentic expressions. We made the forty-minute trip from Dubai and accessed the national park just to indulge in the royal spa treatments offered in this idyllic setting. Not only is the atmosphere an integration of Emirati hospitality, but the facilities and services provide an indulgent hammam, steam room, outdoor pool, patio and jacuzzi. As it is a boutique property the time of the year to go is definitely in summer where availability is more open and promotions are available.
Conrad Pune, India
The hotel itself is an escape from a big, bustling city and the spa follows this theme. Set on a mid-level floor with an outdoor pool deck and relaxing interiors the atmosphere is enviable. There are various treatments that capture Asian, Western and Ayurbetic traditions. We found the scrubs to be rejuvenating and the skill of the staff exceptional. Hospitality and positivity flowed around every experience from first booking the treatment to the post treatment relaxation tea.
Ritz Carlton Haikou, China
While it is unknown to many outside of Asia, this island is the who’s who of luxury hotels and competitive resorts in China. The Ritz Carlton is one of the newest installments in a never ending pipeline of world class properties that feature wellness, relaxation and recreational facilities. The treatments we booked here were both exotic and accessible. What stood out was the attention to detail and personalized treatment each staff member offered us. The Ritz offers abundant space, elaborate design, refreshing ingredients and intuitive service.
Raffles Jakarta, Indonesia
Raffles continues to impress us in its carefully chosen properties across the globe and Jakarta is no exception. In fact it stands out for its personalized and welcoming environment. As walk in guests we were given access to promotions, preferences were noted and a treatment was tailored even according to skin and muscle needs. The pre treatment relaxation area offers tranquil views of an endless skyline with heated chairs and an impressive wet and dry sauna.
Ritz Carlton Grand Canal Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Set in one of the most naturally scenic neighborhoods of Abu Dhabi, this hotel is grand and majestic. It captures the charm of a palace on a waterway and might fall prey to its own grandiosity except for the fact that the spa is carefully placed aside in its own building so as to maintain the exclusive and intimate vibe. Most of the relaxation and treatment rooms are facing the waterway or even underground, decorated in Arabian splendor and this just adds tranquility on top of the already hospitable and discerning disposition of the expertly trained staff.
Ritz Carlton Dubai Financial Center, United Arab Emirates
In Dubai it is always possible to find variety and competition and this Ritz Carlton maintains a reputation for having excellent wellness facilities in our experience. There is ample space set aside so that hotel guests can access the facilities in privacy and solitude, enjoying attentive staff as well as well maintained sauna and steam facilities. We found the process of arranging treatments to be smooth and the relaxation room to be a true escape from the bustle of Dubai.
