Ever since we first discovered Eataly several years ago in New York, at the recommendation of the concierge at the Peninsula hotel we have watched this truly innovative concept grow and spread around the world. We love Italian food, especially the natural, fresh and savory purity of wholesome ingredients that taste like the Italian countryside. If you are looking for authenticity and quality, Eataly is for you.
We had the opportunity to indulge in this masterful expression of Italian food most recently in Istanbul and now at its newest USA location. The Eataly grocery and restaurant takes up two whole floors inside the Westfield Century City. If you have been before as we have it is a similar experience to their other locations, LA being more expensive but really not that bad when you consider you are just down the street from Beverly Hills.
There are rows of delectable Italian, cheeses, wines, pastas, meats, fish, sweets, sauces, fresh vegetables. It is like being in a grocery store in Italy and somehow even more because so many varieties of everything are carried. The cheese is fresh and delightful, we watched Burrata being made by hand as we stood in line to be seated for dinner.
You know how they say its dangerous to go grocery shopping on an empty stomach? Eataly has got you covered. Throughout the store there are food counters, some serving gelato, others making pizzas in brick ovens, still other stations where fresh pasta is being made, bread baked and desserts perfected.
We enjoyed a spectacular lunch on the veranda overlooking the busy Santa Monica boulevard below.The menu offered a wide sampling of various Italian dishes and wines and the food was just heavenly. Most of the options were vegetarian and the portions were very healthy. The entire concept of the place is founded on quality ingredients and there is no substitute for that when it comes to fantastic food.
