Conrad Hotels across the world, we’ve seen more than our fair share. Their standards are remarkable, memorable and dependable. We are always made to feel as if we’re the most important guests in the hotel. We never considered what an even better experience might look like until it found us, in a recent stay at the Conrad Pezula in Knysna, South Africa.
To start off, the situation of the hotel is gorgeous. Wild grassy hills situated between enchanting forests and cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean present a portrait of Africa that are astounding in beauty. Our impression of the hotel was immediately heightened upon check in. We were given a great upgrade and a warm welcome in light of our HHonors Status. Soon afterwards we experienced two routine delays with the room that could happen to anyone. The response by hotel staff was exemplary. We received many apologies, some complimentary offers and services. Everyone from upper management to staff were concerned with our wellbeing, happiness and enjoyment of the property.
Winning Feature: Anticipatory Service
The pleasant surprises didn’t end there. Seldom have we been in a property whose sense of service is so anticipatory. Our preferences were noted and staff always took the opportunity to speak up and see if we’d appreciate anything else. We never had to call twice or follow up with a request.
The various suites across the property are in a word, cozy. A large bedroom space with comfortable furniture, a soft rug and either a balcony or a private garden open complete with wood burning fireplaces which were the focal point of the room. A spacious walk in closet, a large stone floor bathroom with a soaking tub and shower and a kitchenette give the suite an all around homey feel. With the mild South African winter during our stay it was a treat to have a roaring fire prepared by the staff each night at our bequest. More firewood magically appeared in our outside bin as the night wore on without a single prompting from us, dedicated service in every detail.
There are many features which make this resort eclectic and enjoyable. An award winning golf course with views of the Ocean across manicured hillsides. Checking the guestbook we can see people from across the globe have sought out and been impressed by the beauty of Knysna. The Hotel has several restaurants and a classy bar. All are set up with a blend of traditional African art and a mixture of very modern wood and stone work with plenty of windows to invite nature into every inch of the hotel. The Spa has a nice steam room, sauna, pool, juice bar and treatment facilities. The gym is adequate, but could be more spacious and updated.
One of the property’s many alluring aspects is the 1930’s castle built on the Pezula Estate overlooking one of the most scenic beaches we’ve ever seen. While booking this option is a premium stay with its own chef, wine cellar, butlers and menu, it was so gracious to be offered a tour of the historic mansion with the always smiling and ready to please staff of the Conrad Pezula. They are truly the hotel’s most winning feature!
