Bratislava is only 45 minutes from Vienna, they are two of the closest capitals in Europe. Many people like to combine both for a trip or fly into affordable Bratislava on a low cost airline for an easy way to see Vienna. In our case we rented a car to explore Slovakia which we really recommend! We returned the car at Bratislava on a Sunday afternoon and took the bus onward to Vienna.
The two main bus companies that serve this route are Flixbus and Slovak Lines. The route usually includes a stop at Vienna Airport too in case you just need to change airports. The Bratislava terminal is all one room, so simply find the public transport screen, identify the bus you’d like to take and proceed outside to either stop #1 or #2. The numbered buses go into Bratislava directly.
This service runs between 4am and 10:45pm to Vienna’s Erdberg Strasser. Mostly every hour and prices range from 5 Euro to 10 Euro at peak hours. We found this to be the only bus running regularly through the weekend so be sure and pre-book a ticket online especially if it is a Saturday or Sunday afternoon you are after. Tickets can also be purchased from the bus driver.
This is a good bus line from city to city itself but it has limited service from Bratislava Airport. The times it runs daily are starting from the Bratislava airport at 8:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30, 21:30. It arrives half an hour before from the Vienna direction. Bus tickets can be purchased from the driver or online promotions can sometimes be as low as 1 Euro.
