These two towns sit just adjacent to one another and they represent one of the most stylish ski destinations in the USA and one of the best locales in Colorado.
They are found a little less than two hours drive from Denver along the main highway 70 which serves as a gateway to so many of the mountain wonders this area holds. There are loads of hotels, airbnb’s and plenty of public transit in this towns and the greater area like Bachelor Gulch, Vail and Eagle.
Like most of Colorado’s mountain towns and resorts, prices can get very high during peak seasons. Beaver Creek and Avon are more affordable in shoulder season. The advantages are you can stay in the same really good hotels (Ritz Carlton, Park Hyatt) for a fraction of what they cost in the height of winter or summer. There are plenty of stores, shopping centers,and the villages themselves have a welcoming family vibe with stylish houses, shops and restaurants.
One of the weeks we took advantage of were the days just prior to thanksgiving. The slopes usually open that weekend, but the days leading up to the holiday and opening day itself are usually a real great time to have the whole place to yourself and for a great price.
Many of the hotels are in a style that have fireplaces, living rooms, kitchenettes and for those who love cooking their own food, mountaineering and relaxing with views of nature all around it doesn’t get much better than places like this.
