Every time we pass through Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose the updates and facilities are more impressive. It is not like the gigantic airports of Asia, but retains the familiarity of low ceilings and well crafted facilities.
The Avianca Lounge is a great plus for those with lounge access status. As it can be accessed through a variety types of tickets and with Star Alliance rewards programs.
The lounge opens daily from 0530 till 2100 It sits on the second floor of the terminal just past security and the main duty free shops by gate 4A It can be accessed via stairs if one has light bags or through a dedicated elevator.
The staff at the front desk were receptive and welcoming. Our access came early in the morning and we received some coupons for complementary drink or food items. They explained well the features of the lounge. We had need to print some documents for the onward journey and the staff obliged our request.
Inside the lounge is very modern and clean. There are three overall seating areas, the largest open room with floor to ceiling windows, comfortable chairs and plenty of tables; there is a computer area with work stations and some lounge furniture followed by a small, lengthy room which could be more relaxing for a longer stay, yet not a completely dedicated quiet room.
Service in the lounge was attentive, there was a buffet area for self service and we had several interactions with waiters who made sure we had everything we needed. the only complaint of our visit was the WiFi. It was not working well at all during our visit and there wasn’t a strong effort by the lounge to address the issue.
Overall the Avianca lounge in San Jose was a place with familiar and polite service. It was modern, enjoyable and has everything one expects to pass the time well before a flight.
