One of the greatest things we experienced in Bariloche Argentina was being outdoors. The views are so dramatic, pristine and pure, you literally have to force yourself indoors for the basics of human habitation.
For mountain and nature lovers and lovers of luxury living too there is a hotel which far and away bests the local competition for understated luxury and memorable vistas right from the room, that is Arelauquen lodge.
This fantastic hotel offers views of the surrounding mountains from every angle. It sits alone in the middle of a massive golf course and gated community complex with views all the way down to Lake Gutiérrez. The property feels sophisticated with its central bar and restaurant, modern artwork displays and winter chalet/cabin decor. It is not in Bariloche but halfway between the lakeside city and the Cierro Catedral ski resort.
We found the hotel to be very much a unique property with an exclusive and laid back approach and at the same time proud of its Marriott affiliation. Being Titanium brought several nice benefits and coming at the end of ski season (with plenty of skiing still to be done) meant the hotel was not at full capacity and our arrival and departure times were flexible. You will definitely need to rent or use taxis since distances are lengthy around the area, but we found the local rates to be affordable overall.
Our room was facing the golf course and it had an impressive balcony which made the room feel double the size. It was complete with a kitchenette, wifi, wood-beamed ceiling and plenty of storage space for food and clothing. Parking and washer drier machines were complimentary. The central bar has drinks at some of the best hotel prices around and there is one restaurant with panoramic mountain views and a terrace.
The extended amenities include a gym, sauna, an indoor/outdoor pool which is heated and connected and a hot tub. The hotel at the end doesn’t have that many rooms, but it feels quite private and it is catered by wonderfully pleasant and prompt staff. For anyone in the area to embrace the outdoors the hotel is superbly located from some of the best adventure spots in the region. Sure some people might want to stay in Bariloche itself or on the ski slopes, but to be honest this is the private and discerning spot to be.
