Ras Al Khaimah is an increasingly developed Emirate that is drawing Dubai locals as well as tourists who seek great hotels and destinations beyond the regularly trafficked areas. The access to the sea along with spectacular hotels, new shopping centers and attractions like golf and desert sports will leave one with plenty to do. Al Hamra Mall is the place to shop whether one is getting groceries, purchasing alcohol or looking for leisure goods.
Many westerners and expats who travel abroad do not take all of their meals in the hotel and often like to supplement their daily activities with snacks and supplies. Locals too can of course find foods in restaurants and grocery which reflect their tastes as well. If one is staying at one of the beach hotels like the Waldorf Astoria, Rixos, Banyan Tree, Hilton or the Al Hamra Village, Al Hamra mall is around a mile mile trek on foot or just a short taxi ride away. We found it best to make the trip at night as the sidewalks are wide and well lit and the journey is significantly cooler.
Inside the Mall is a Spinney’s grocery store. It offers many local and continental foodstuffs, much of which is fresh or freshly made. One can savor good vegetables as well as spices and herbs (the Omani mint is superb) there are plenty of snack foods and bottled water too. The store readily accepts cards or cash. Spinney’s is open from 7am till Midnight daily. Alcohol sale and purchase is a limited luxury in this Emirate. Of course the hotels are able to serve, but for purchasing one’s own supply only select stores are available in town. Attached to the Spinney’s supermarket here is the best selection in Ras Al Khaimah. It can only be accessed from the outside of the mall and it is a windowless and non descript place with a sign that says S&P Beverages. (see photo below).
The Mall is open from 10am-10pm Saturday till Wednesday and Thursdays & Fridays 10am till Midnight. A free shuttle bus connects Al Hamra Mall with Al Manar Mall in town. There is plenty of parking on site at the Mall as well as WiFi available at Café Nero, Shakespeare, Cristina Brazilian Cafe & Restaurant.
